Ohio Valley Resonance Citizen Science In Action
Since St. Patrick's Day, 2011, the Ohio Valley has endured over 1,000 earthquakes.
Remember the Youngstown 4.0 earthquake?
We do.
From St. Patricks Day thru December 31, 2011, ODNR (Ohio State Regulators) DENIED any correlation between 10 earthquakes and the Northstar 1 injection well in Youngstown.
Tom Tomastik, (then) Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Chief: Underground Injection Control (UIC). For 10 months this man FAILED the people of Northeast Ohio. Deny, deny, deny and it cost us dearly.
TEN MONTHS OF BOOMS, SHAKES & FEAR.
The people of Northeast Ohio had put up with 10 months of this. In November, after earthquake #9, seven citizens protested and BLOCKED the entrance to the Northstar1 injection well. Seven citizens were arrested. ODNR continued to DENY. And then, 1 month later Youngstown was rocked by a 4.0 magnitude earthquake.
Many homes experienced cracks in foundations, driveways, chimneys. Bank buildings downtown lost windows. And then came news of Meander Dam. Meander Dam is 80 years old and was in need of $4 million in repairs due to age. Normal wear and tear. After the Youngstown 4.0 earthquake, Meander dam materialized another $24 million in needed repairs. Now that the valley is earthquake prone, the state requires the dam be bolstered to meet these conditions, adding another $22 million to the price.
How can $4 million become $50 million? ODNR.
Meander Dam is classified as a High Hazard Dam.
Should it fail, loss of life is probable.
The people living in harms way deserve better.
Much Better
When "State Science" Fails,
Citizen Science Prevails!
So here we are.
Earthquakes have been quiet around here since the AWMS toxic waste injection well was closed down.
What's up with NOW?
The AWMS toxic waste injection well, just outside of Niles is WHAT'S UP!
SHUT DOWN by ODNR because the AWMS injection well was responsible for 108 earthquakes and it is less than 3 miles from Meander Dam. After YEARS in the courts, the AWMS injection well won the right to re-open under conditions. This was not good enough for the AWMS injection well, they want more. More AWMS Info
The KDA toxic waste injection well in Vienna Township is WHAT'S UP!
SHUT DOWN by ODNR because of a toxic spill that polluted 3 wetlands and 2 ponds.
ODNR now says it's ok to reopen the well under a new name. More KDA Info
Vienna will now have 2 high volume, high pressure, deep, toxic waste injection wells only 1.4 miles apart!
